I just finished reading an article in the New York Times published in August of 2009 by Barbara Ireland. ”Do-It-Yourself RV” was a companion piece to “Two for the Road” about her quick journey across the US in a makeshift conversion “RV-lite” Toyota minivan. Although the article was interesting, it was the reader comments that truly drew me in. I should mention that I have a fascination with comments. I love reading them! Sometimes they can be burly, funny, annoying, inspiring, aggravating, or just plain interesting. And surprisingly the readers comments to this piece were the best part of the article. Brief descriptions of honeymoons spent traversing the US and brief declarations of dreams of upcoming trips can be found throughout. Little gems hidden amongst the comments that inspire travel by car. I plan on reading “Two for the Road” and digging into those comments as well…fine reading indeed!

Oh yeah, now THERE’S a suitable use for a minivan. (With four people in our fam, we’d have to get two, though.) (And paint them like 70′s Winnebago’s!
) When I was five, we used a Dodge Van as a camper. My parents threw a mattress in the back and I slept on a little tiny “shelf” with a cushion on it! We even had that portable sink thingy. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the portable toilet.
